A powerful 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Yibin City in China’s Sichuan Province on Monday, sending strong tremors across the region and causing panic among residents. The shaking was also felt in major cities, including Chengdu and Chongqing, prompting many people to evacuate homes, offices, and public buildings as a precaution.
Videos shared on social media captured the moments when the earthquake struck, showing people rushing to safety as buildings shook. Emergency services were quickly placed on alert, while local authorities began assessing the impact of the quake.
According to officials, telephone checks with authorities in the epicentre and nearby townships found no reports of collapsed buildings, people trapped under debris, or major road blockages during the initial assessment. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and remain prepared to respond to any aftershocks or further developments.
China’s earthquake response teams remain on standby as inspections continue in the affected areas. Officials have urged residents to stay alert and follow safety instructions while monitoring updates from local authorities.
