Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian participated in a mourning ceremony on the eve of Ashura at the Hazrat Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha Mosque in the city of Urmia. The president joined hundreds of mourners to pay tribute to Imam Hussain (AS), whose martyrdom at Karbala is commemorated by millions of Muslims around the world.
Videos shared by Iranian media showed President Pezeshkian taking part in traditional mourning rituals alongside worshippers. The gathering marked the solemn occasion of Ashura, with participants expressing grief and respect for the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions.
Similar scenes were also witnessed in Tehran, where Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi attended an Ashura mourning gathering. Religious ceremonies and processions were held across different cities in Iran as thousands of people observed the occasion through prayers, recitations, and traditional mourning rituals.
Ashura is observed on the 10th day of Muharram and commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The day holds deep religious significance and symbolizes sacrifice, justice, truth, and resistance against oppression for millions of people around the world.
