Hajj 2026: Millions of Pilgrims Prepare for Spiritual Journey to Mecca

Millions of Muslims from around the world are preparing for Hajj 2026, the annual Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. The pilgrimage, which is considered one of the five pillars of Islam, is expected to begin around May 25, 2026, depending on the official moon sighting announcement by Saudi authorities.

Saudi Arabia has finalized large-scale preparations for the arrival of nearly two million pilgrims expected to participate in this year’s Hajj. Authorities have expanded security, transport, healthcare, and accommodation arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience for visitors coming from across the globe.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has already started issuing Hajj visas and implementing digital systems through the Nusuk platform to simplify registrations, bookings, and travel arrangements. Officials said thousands of pilgrims have already completed registration, while special camps and transport services are being prepared in Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah ahead of the pilgrimage season.

Authorities have also introduced stricter rules for Hajj 2026 to control overcrowding and improve safety measures. Saudi officials warned that anyone attempting to perform Hajj without an official permit could face heavy fines, deportation, and long-term entry bans. The government has urged pilgrims to use only authorized Hajj permits and approved travel agencies to avoid fraud and fake visa offers.

The key rituals of Hajj include Tawaf around the Holy Kaaba, prayers in Mina, standing at Arafat, spending the night in Muzdalifah, and the symbolic stoning ritual at Jamarat. The Day of Arafat is expected to fall on May 26, while Eid-ul-Adha will likely begin on May 27, subject to moon sighting confirmation.

Every year, Hajj becomes one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, bringing together Muslims of different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds in a shared spiritual journey. Saudi authorities say preparations this year are focused on improving crowd management, transportation systems, healthcare facilities, and digital monitoring to ensure the safety and comfort of all pilgrims.
