Pakistani actress and television host Mishi Khan has voiced strong criticism over the reported cash amount given to recipients of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz this year. In a recent video shared on social media, she claimed that artists who received the prestigious civil award were given only Rs500, which she described as disrespectful and disappointing.
Mishi Khan said that in previous years, governments used to award recipients with financial rewards of around one million rupees along with the honour. She expressed concern that the current amount does not reflect the value of the artists’ hard work, dedication, and contributions to Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
The actress further criticized the authorities, accusing them of ignoring and insulting artists despite their services to the country. Her comments quickly gained attention online, sparking debate among social media users about how national award recipients should be recognized and appreciated.
The Sitara-e-Imtiaz is one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards and is presented to individuals who have shown excellence in their respective fields, including arts, literature, sports, science, and public service.
