Deadly 7.8-Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Philippines, Ishaq Dar Offers Prayers and Support

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the powerful earthquake that struck the southern Philippines, resulting in loss of life, injuries, and widespread destruction.

In a statement, Dar said he was deeply saddened by the devastating earthquake in Mindanao and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the disaster and reaffirmed Pakistan’s full solidarity with the government and people of the Philippines during this difficult time.

The strong earthquake, measuring 7.8 in magnitude, struck off the coast of Mindanao on Monday and was felt across several regions of the country. The powerful tremor damaged buildings, roads, and other infrastructure, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes and seek shelter in evacuation centers.

According to Philippine disaster management authorities, more than 450 people were injured while thousands remained displaced in the aftermath of the quake. Officials said rescue and relief operations were ongoing, with emergency teams continuing to assess the extent of the damage. While initial reports indicated a higher number of missing persons, authorities now believe only four people remain unaccounted for.

The earthquake triggered panic across affected areas, with residents rushing outdoors as buildings shook violently. Authorities have also warned of possible aftershocks and urged communities to remain vigilant while recovery efforts continue.

Pakistan joined the international community in expressing sympathy and support for the Philippines as it works to recover from one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in recent years.
