Police Stop KP CM Sohail Afridi From Meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail

Capital police on Tuesday stopped Sohail Afridi from reaching Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he was scheduled to meet jailed PTI founder Imran Khan.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 5, 2023, after being convicted in the Toshakhana case related to concealing details of state gifts. He is currently serving a 14-year sentence at Adiala Jail in the £190 million corruption case, also known as the Al-Qadir Trust case.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had allowed the former prime minister to meet his family members, lawyers, and political associates twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, despite the court order, PTI leaders claim that meetings with him have repeatedly been restricted over the past several months.

While speaking to reporters, Sohail Afridi criticized the authorities for stopping him and members of the provincial cabinet from meeting Imran Khan. He said preventing the chief executive and cabinet members of a province from holding a peaceful meeting was unfair treatment towards Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He also mentioned that Imran Khan’s sisters had allegedly faced disrespect during previous jail visits, including the use of water cannons by authorities. Despite this, he said the party had continued to respond peacefully.

Questioning the actions of the authorities, Sohail Afridi asked what message was being sent through such treatment. He further said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should not be considered weak or subjected to injustice.
