The controversy surrounding Naseem Shah began during the PSL 11 opening ceremony at Gaddafi Stadium, where a video of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz receiving a high-protocol welcome went viral. Shortly after, a sarcastic quote-tweet appeared on Naseem Shah’s official X account comparing the Chief Minister’s reception to that of a queen at Lord’s, which many viewed as a critique of the “VIP culture” during a time when fans were restricted from the stadium. Although the post was quickly deleted and Naseem claimed his account had been hacked, the Pakistan Cricket Board initiated a formal inquiry. Following a disciplinary hearing on March 30, 2026,the PCB rejected the hacking defense and imposed a record fine of 20 million PKR on the fast bowler for violating his central contract’s social media policy. Naseem Shah ultimately issued an unconditional apology, and the incident led to the immediate termination and blacklisting of his social media advisor, who was identified as the individual responsible for the post.
