Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik on Thursday announced a significant increase in fuel prices, citing rising costs in the international market.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the minister said that the price of petrol has been raised to Rs458.5 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now cost Rs520.35 per litre.
Malik attributed the hike to escalating energy prices globally, driven largely by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He noted that the impact of the war is not limited to the region but is being felt worldwide.
At the beginning of the briefing, the minister thanked President Asif Ali Zardari, provincial chief ministers, and allied party leaders for their support and guidance during what he described as a “critical time.”
He emphasized the importance of unity and discipline in the current situation, adding that the government’s decision, though difficult, was necessary given the prevailing global circumstances.
